E3 2011: PS Vita Is Region Free?Author: Pete Haas

If you're fond of importing games, PlayStation Vita might be the handheld for you. It seems the system won't be region-locked, so it will play games released in any part of the world.
According to IGN, Sony Worldwide Studios Europe vice president Michael Denny told press at E3 that the handheld was region-free "to the best of his knowledge." It's not completely set in stone, then. Sure sounds promising, though. The upside to a region-free PS Vita is that you'll be able to import a game that debuts earlier in another country. Or you could pick up a game that isn't going to be otherwise released in your country at all. Perhaps most importantly, though, you'd be able to buy the handheld itself earlier by importing it from wherever it's released first (probably Japan). The PS Vita is scheduled to debut by the end of this year. The exact dates for each region haven't been announced yet. |
