Nintendo's flagship series Super Mario will arrive on the 3DS later this year. At Nintendo's E3 press conference, the company revealed the first trailer for Super Mario 3D.

Creator Shigeru Miyamoto previously described the game as a cross between Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64. The trailer seems to bear out this point. It's a 3D platformer that seems feature the occasionally 2.5D segment to stoke nostalgia.

In case you're wondering why the game's logo has a tail: they're bringing back the raccoon suit. That's one of the reasons, at least. Maybe there are others.

No word on specifically when Super Mario 3D will arrive this year. Holiday time seems like a good guess.
