Microsoft is continuing their efforts to make the Xbox 360 an overall entertainment device rather than simply a video game console. During their E3 press conference, they announced several new features they're adding to Xbox Live.
To ensure that you waste time on your Xbox 360 rather than your PC, Microsoft will be introducing YouTube support to Live soon. Not much else was said about that. Not sure they need to say more than that, honestly. Your Xbox 360 will be able to play Miley Cyrus music videos and whatever else you kids watch these days. Microsoft's search engine Bing will also be introduced to the console. It will take advantage of Kinect's voice recognition. You can, for example, say "Xbox Bing Star Wars" and receive search results related to Star Wars. Perhaps the biggest new feature, though is Live TV. Microsoft is partnering with various companies in order to bring television content to the 360 this fall. UFC president Dana White came out during this part of the E3 press conference to announce that live UFC events will be streamed through the console. Xbox Live users will also get a chance to see other UFC video footage including training and weigh-ins. |
