The Wii U will be accompanied at launch by a new Mario game. During their E3 press conference, Nintendo formally announced New Super Mario Bros. U.

Mario Bros. U looks similar to side-scroller New Super Marios Bros. Wii. The graphics look a lot better, though. Up to four players traverse the levels together. They control their characters using Wii remotes.

A fifth player can also join in the fun with the Wii U GamePad. They can tap the gamepad to drop platforms for other players. Double-tapping will place a smaller platforms to breaks into coins when someone lands on it.

The game will also utilize the Wii U's Miiverse social network. Players will be able to exchange messages with friends without leaving the action.
