EA At E3: Rock Band 2 Details, 84 Track Setlist Revealed

When it comes to music rhythm games like Rock Band 2, the titles live and die by the setlist. Then again Harmonix and MTV Games have gotten around that issue by constantly, and consistently, providing downloadable songs for the first game. And come Fall you’ll be able to get those same tracks to work on Rock Band 2. Not only that, but the downloadable song train will continue on stronger than ever. But let’s get to the new game and Harmonix has in store for fans.

I know, there’s no new drum kit, and that Guitar Hero: World Tour set is looking mighty enticing. But rather than bicker and squabble, Rock Band 2 will allow third-party instruments to work just fine. So go ahead and get the World Tour drum kit if you must, it’ll work over here too. You’ll still require something for it to work with, and a few announcements this week on upcoming collaborations have piqued my interest.

For the first time since he was relevant, and adults didn’t get beat up for having long blond hair while wearing a bandana, Axl Rose is debuting some new song on Rock Band 2. They’re claiming this “Chinese Democracy” album is Guns N Roses, but I know better. It’s N Roses at the most. Despite his douchebaggery Axl does remain one of the top voices in rock, so this is a welcome addition.

But not as much as AC/DC finally getting into a game. AC/DC has been the most requested band since early Guitar Hero days and the boys are coming only to Rock Band 2 with the classic Let There Be Rock. I can only hope, and assume, we’ll be getting much more than this as DLC. I’ve just been thunder struck.

The last mega musical announcement out of E3 is that Bob Dylan will bring Tangled Up In Blue to Rock Band 2. OK. I love Dylan. I watch No Direction Home a few times a year and play Dylan songs on my guitar. But I’m not convinced it’ll be much fun to play Bob Dylan songs in Rock Band.
