EA: Dead Space And Mirror's Edge Will Be Successes

Though Dead Space and Mirror's Edge didn't sell very well, EA's sticking by their two new IP's. They've just reiterated their commitment to the series once again.

"I think if you analyze games like Dead Space and Mirror's Edge for their lifetime performance, I bet you'll find them to be seen as successful," said EA Games Europe senior VP Patrick Söderlund in an Gamasutra interview. "They're both new IPs; it's hard to break new ground with new IPs, especially in that Q3 window, when you have games like Gears of War 2, Call of Duty 5, and a bunch of other really strong products with a 2, or 3, or 4, or 5 on it.

He went on to call Dead Space an "awesome game" and said that although Mirror's Edge wasn't perfect, it was "a good first attempt." Söderlund's striking a tone similar to EA CEO John Riccitiello's comments back in December - basically, enthusiasm for Dead Space and cautious optimism for Mirror's Edge. Seems like they're happy with the formula for DS but it remains to be seen what changes they'll make to ME.
