EA Introduces Family Game Night

EA Introduces Family Game Night Setting up a “Family Game Night,” or a similar gathering of the family, is great. Despite the world’s desire to be cynical there’s still something to be treasured about spending time with your kids. You may even find that you like them. So, I can’t fault EA for trying to tap into the idea with their Family Game Night. Coming to Wii and Playstation 2 in the Fall the title has six classic games including: Battleship, Yahtzee, Boggle, Connect Four, Sorry!, and Sorry! Sliders.

“We’re giving families a new way to bond and play together,” said Chip Lange, Vice President and General Manager of EA’s Casual Entertainment Label. Actually you’re not doing anything of the sort. The reason I have trouble understanding the appeal – or need – for Hasbro Family Game Night is because these games are already all available. And Yahtzee and Battleship are popular enough that most households have them in a closet somewhere.

Here’s an idea: break out your Battleship game board and play with your kids. I’m not sure what motivation to play these classics is going to manifest from them appearing on the television screen. But then again, adding another option to family’s looking to spend time together isn’t a bad thing. Even if it makes little sense to some of us.
