Epic Games Releases New March, 2012 UDK Beta

The latest build of the Unreal Development Kit beta has gone live and gamers, developers and enthusiasts alike can download the latest UDK right now, for free, from the official website.

Epic didn't just want people to know that they can start building and designing their projects with a new build. They wanted to inform designers, developers, creative minds and artistic entertainment aficionados that there are a number of new changes made to the overall design scheme to make it easier to get things done, streamlined and coded.

What's more is that a new demonstration is available showing off how an entire scene was rendered using only one texture in the Unreal Development Kit environment. It's some crazy cool stuff which you can check out right here.

In addition to the new features for the March UDK release, Epic Games has also announced they have partnered with Applied Research Associates' Virtual Hero division to have the Unreal Engine used for Government programs and "serious" game design that helps with real-world simulations for educating and stimulating young and older demographics alike.

Jerry Heneghan, founder of Virtual Heroes and director of HumanSim product development at ARA commented in the press release, saying...

“Virtual Heroes is committed to providing world-class support to our licensees to ensure that all UE3 solutions achieve the best possible results across multiple platforms,”... “Our technical and creative staff is uniquely qualified to provide a new standard of responsive, personalized service to government customers worldwide.”

Various demonstrations of the Unreal Engine being used for Virtual Heroes' real-world simulations can be viewed right here.

Now on to some more meat and potatoes...you can check out a few key features of the latest update of the UDK below. In case you were wondering, this is the same engine tools used for fan-favorite projects like Dungeon Defenders, Renegade X and Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. It's a perfect place to get started for indie devs or game designers on a budget. For more info or the opportunity to download the latest UDK build, feel free to visit the Official Website.
