Day two of the Xbox Live Ultimate Game Sale is up and running, offering another six games at deep discounts for the next 24 hours. There's also news concerning the July 16 Games with Gold promotion, which fans of sneakily killing folks with hidden blades might have an interest in.

First, the Games with Gold news. Larry Hryb, better known around the internets as the one and only “Major Nelson” has confirmed via Twitter that the second title in Microsoft's free game promotion will be Assassin's Creed II. The promotion's first game, Defense Grid: The Awakening received lukewarm reception when it was announced as a Games with Gold title, as it was an XBLA title and not the AAA boxed games that had originally been touted at the program's E3 announcement.

Never mind the fact that nobody ever said all of the games will be mega blockbuster hits, nor the fact that Defense Grid itself was pretty well received. But I suppose that's how gamers tend to be these days. Give us a free game and we'll demand a better free game.

The Games with Gold promotion is set to run through the end of the year, offering two titles per month on the 1st and on the 16th. In case Defense Grid just wasn't doing it for ya, then maybe Assassin's Creed II will do the trick in just a couple of weeks.

If not, then maybe something from today's limited time offerings on the Ultimate Game Sale will pique your interest. So it looks like these daily doses of discounts are going to be themed, as yesterday's offerings, including Far Cry 3, Borderlands 2 and the like, were action-packed. Today's offerings visit the other side of the spectrum, offering some good, clean family fun rather than buckets of bullets and blood.

If you're looking to get the family in on the action, or perhaps you just enjoy a less violent gaming session every now and again, then you'll want to check out what today's sales have to offer.
