Blend Games is at it again, this time we’re
bringing you the game-versus-game action on a Friday. For the next three weeks we’ll cover the
likes of three distinct topics for both games, in our typical three-round bout. Some gamers may
not see the point in these bouts. But remember, there’s a lot of other gamers out there who may
not be informed to certain details on either game. Plus, this gives gamers the opportunity to give
feedback and vote for the game they would rather play.
I understand a lot of people are doing “game x versus game y” all over
the net. But it’s a weekly venture here at Blend
Games, and we’ve now conveniently setup these bouts for your viewing pleasure every
Friday. But to make sure things are more user-friendly, we also have a user request on the Blend Games Forum, so for future battles we’ll
specifically have the games you want to see going head-to-head. But let’s go on to the
fun stuff.
Now at first SOCOM was pitted against Call of Duty, but we found that
SOCOM just wasn’t quite comparable to Call of Duty the way Far Cry 2
was. So after some contemplating and some pre-round comparisons, it was decided that it would
be Far Cry 2 versus Call of Duty: World at War. So let's get it on!
Round 1: Who has the better shootouts?
When deciding on a game to purchase (especially a shooter), you want to make sure that the
game’s shooting functions aren’t broken, sluggish, or too much like Virtua Cop. The
balance has to be fun enough to keep a gamer entertained, yet challenging enough to keep
players’ attention focused on the action on-screen. So for this round, you can check out two
gameplay clips of Far Cry 2 and Call of Duty: World at War, specifically
showcasing both games’ shootouts and firefights.
Personally, I would have to give the edge to Far Cry 2. I think the weapons seem to pack
a serious punch, even if they don’t sound quite as devastating as the World War II cache from
Call of Duty. Also, the AI exhibits a lot more functionality in Far Cry 2, making
them appear to be more challenging, which forces players to adapt or die. One last thing I should point out,
is that Far Cry 2 appears to treat the gun as a character...it's as if each weapon is as important as the main character, yet distinctive in their function to maim, kill and create destruction.
CoD: WaW is no slacker, though, when it comes to a firefight. The game has a spit-and-shine tactic with their gunfights that looks and feel like absolute chaos and carnage. While the shooting is fast and frantic, it's not entirely coherent sometimes, and it can leave you feeling like you just stepped through a whirlwind without ever seeing it. It's not a bad thing, but it all comes down to a gamer's preference for a fun shootout. But don’t take my word for it, check out the clips and see for yourself.

Call of Duty: World at War
Now that you’ve seen both clips, it’s time to vote on which game you feel brings the fire and
destruction to their shootouts with grade-A entertainment values. And don’t forget to visit the Blend Games Forum to give a shout-out for the
games you want to see in our weekly battle.
