Final Fantasy Games Half Off On PSN Starting Today

It's been a quarter of a century since the first Final Fantasy released for the Nintendo Entertainment System and, to celebrate, Square Enix is offering a handful of series titles for 50 percent off on the PlayStation Network starting today.

Nothing makes me feel old quite like writing these stories about how, if these games I loved were people, they could be graduating with a masters degree or parenting a couple of kids at this point in their lifespan. I mean, can you believe that Final Fantasy launched a whole 25 years ago?

Even more impressive is that the series is still going strong. Scoff all you want following the last couple of installments, the Final Fantasy series is still alive, selling like mad and introducing new titles and spinoffs on a regular basis. The fans are the main reason Final Fantasy is still alive and kicking, which is exactly why Square Enix wants to thank the players with a 50 percent discount on select titles for the next two weeks on PSN, according to Senior Executive Managing Officer Shinji Hashimoto.

“Twenty-five years ago, our company launched a game called Final Fantasy,” Hashimoto states in a recent post on the PlayStation Blog. “It was the result of a lot of hard work and dedication. It was also the start of a franchise that would go on to capture the hearts of millions of players around the world.”

For the next two weeks, the following titles will be marked down by 50 percent on the PlayStation Network. Whether you're looking to revisit an old favorite or experience the series for the first time, now is a pretty good (and pretty inexpensive) chance to do exactly that. The discounted prices will be active as soon as the PlayStation Store updates this afternoon.
