Square Enix announced that they would be teaming with DeNA to bring gamers the next evolution of Final Fantasy games, but not on any current or next-gen consoles but on a social network platform called Mobage.
According to GameIndustry.biz, the renown RPG publisher has partnered with mobile publisher DeNA for a brand new Final Fantasy IP. The name of the IP? Don’t know, because they haven’t said. However, what is known is that the game will be focused on team-based play. So it’s safe to assume to that players will be working together as opposed to fighting against each other. For some odd reason social games seem to favor cooperative play a bit more than console and core PC games. Square, however, is not new to the social network metasphere of interactive entertainment. They have dabbled in the digital frontier of casual gaming before with social games like Knights of the Crystals and Chocobo’s Crystal Tower. Japanese gamers who get their hands on the highly anticipated PSP title, Final Fantasy Type-0 will have the opportunity to register for early access to the new social network based Final Fantasy title. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on any additional news concerning Square’s new collaborative project with DeNA. Back to top
