Final Fantasy XV Demo Comes With Purchase Of Type-0

It's taken a long time to get here, but it looks like Square Enix's latest offering in the long-running RPG series, Final Fantasy XV, might not be too far away from finding itself in your hot little hands. Not only was a new gameplay trailer shown off during this week's Tokyo Game Show, but now reports are coming in that a playable demo will be available courtesy of another Final Fantasy game, Type-0 HD.

Final Fantasy XV originally began life as a game called Versus XIII. From the get-go, it was billed as a different type of FF game that would stray from the traditional path in order to offer up something new. Folks seem to have forgotten that, however, as the recently released trailer for the game appears to deliver on that promise, and quite a few people who were hoping for a game more akin to series classics are having their chocobo feathers ruffled.

For an idea of what I'm talking about, take a gander at the TGS trailer, showing off a bit of emo-tastic voice acting, dramatic moments and lots and lots of driving around in a shiny car. There's also the action-heavy combat that looks more like something you'd expect out of Monster Hunter which, obviously, is a huge departure from the series' usual turn-based system.

So we've got five dudes driving around the countryside slaying monsters with massive swords. There's also a good look at some airships and hairstyles that should make any FF purist happy. Personally, I'm all for seeing the series continue its trek into less charted territory. The FFXIII trilogy got better as it went along and, if I want to play a classic RPG these days, I can easily turn to something like Bravely Default. Yeah, I'd love to see Square Enix do a next gen take on their old school formula, but that doesn't mean I'm ready to write FFXV off simply because it's different or appears to star a boy band.

We'll all get to see firsthand how the game plays, it turns out, starting next year. Kotaku is reporting that Final Fantasy Type-0 HD will include a demo voucher for XV, which you'll get to use to explore a region of the new game called Duscae. Reports are that the demo will last about an hour if you don't bother exploring the region, and that you'll be able to drive yourself around or hang our in the back seat while a teammate takes you to your desired location. There's also a chance that a chocobo will be included (And the crowd goes wild!).

So, there you have it. Pick up Type-0 HD when it releases for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next year and you'll get first crack at what XV has to offer. Here's hoping it's been worth the wait.
