Former Modern Warfare 2 Studio Heads Form Respawn Entertainment
Jason West and Vince Zampella, the former heads of Call of Duty studio Infinity Ward, have announced a new developer. Encino-based Respawn Entertainment is currently recruiting team members to create "state-of-the-art gaming experiences for global audiences."
In March, West and Zampella were fired by Infinity Ward's parent Activision, who attributed the firings to insubordination and breach of contract. West and Zampella filed a lawsuit that says Activision terminated them to avoid paying royalties. They're seeking monetary damages as well as control of Modern Warfare segment of the COD franchise.
Activision's countersuit against the two, filed last week, states the duo was negotiating with a rival game company while employed at IW. If they weren't talking to Activision's rivals before they were fired, they definitely did afterward. Electronic Arts has signed on as Respawn's exclusive publisher and distributor.
