Square Enix revealed today that they're developing Final Fantasy IV: The After Years and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Darklord. Both games will be released for WiiWare later this year.

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years is a sequel to the 1991 SNES game Final Fantasy IV, better known as Final Fantasy II here in the States. Players will control Ceodore, the son of FFIV heroes Cecil and Rosa, in an all-new adventure. It was originally released for mobile phones in Japan in February 2008 and has racked up 3 million downloads since then.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A Dark Lord charges players with protecting their tower from pesky adventurers trying to get the Dark Crystal at the top. To protect your dark abode, you'll have to use a combination of traps and monsters. The game is a follow-up to last year's Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King, which also released for WiiWare and had players build and manage their own kingdom.

In addition, the original Final Fantasy series will be coming to the Virtual Console. The first game in that series will hit VC later this year.
