GDC 2009: Game Developers Choice Awards Winners

Last night, the 9th annual Game Developers Choice Awards took place in San Francisco. LittleBigPlanet took home the most awards, racking up wins for Best Game Design, Best Technology, Best Debut Game and Innovation Award. Game of the Year, however, went to Fallout 3. Here's the full list of winners:
  • Game of the Year: Fallout 3 (Bethesda Softworks)
  • Best Game Design: LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule)
  • Best Writing: Fallout 3 (Bethesda Softworks)
  • Best Technology: LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule)
  • Best Visual Arts: Prince of Persia (Ubisoft Montreal)
  • Best Debut Game: LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule)
  • Best Handheld Game: God Of War: Chains Of Olympus (Ready at Dawn)
  • Innovation Award: LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule)
  • Best Audio: Dead Space (EA Redwood Shores)
  • Best Downloadable Game: World Of Goo (2D Boy)
In addition, three special awards were given out. Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima received the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his long, distinguished career in game design. Alex Rigopulous and Eran Egozy of Harmonix were given the Pioneer Award, an honor reserved for someone who develops a "breakthrough technology, game concept, or gameplay design." The Diplomat Award, for someone who helps the video game industry's standing in society or builds a gaming community, was given to Tommy Tallarico, co-creator of the Video Games Live concert series.
