GTA 5 PS4 Resolution Confirmed As 1080p

GTA 5's PS4 version will run at a native 1080p resolution, according to Official PlayStation Magazine. The mag revealed this fact during a pre-launch preview of the game in their latest issue.

OPM was impressed by the improvements in the sort of way you'd expect from an officially licensed magazine (via GamePur).

"Farewell, 720p. You served your purpose adequately enough. Still, our eyes have been gagging for 1080p's pin-sharp pleasures and the Los Santos sandbox is only too happy to oblige on PS4, running at a native 1920 x 1080 pixels. For a game erected on hundreds of tiny incidental details, the resolution bump is a huge game-changer for GTA V."

To be fair to them, they do provide strong reasons for their enthusiasm. The mag mentions that the textures are now "ridiculously" detailed. For example, you can spot individual screws on certain vehicles. The draw distance has been "massively increased" as well, making buildings visible from miles away.

In the months leading up to GTA 5's PS4 and Xbox One release, Rockstar has said a lot about the new-gen versions' visual enhancements. They've promised new weather and damage effects. The foliage throughout Los Santos and Blaine Counties has been remade to be more realistic. The new consoles can also support more vehicles on-screen at the same time.

Rockstar Games hasn't confirmed the resolution for the Xbox One version yet. I'm sure that you won't need to search very long for that information. When the Xbox One resolution is officially confirmed, it's going to be published, well, everywhere. Whether or not resolution matters to you, the fact is that it's become popular fodder for "Xbox One vs. PS4" debates. If your console runs a game at a higher resolution than a rival console, then, well, one more point for your "team."

GTA 5's PS4 and Xbox One versions will also come loaded with new content. All of GTA Online's post-launch updates, which included a mission editor and new jobs, will ship with those versions. PS4 and Xbox One gamers can also look forward to more weapons, activities and vehicles.

Owners of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will be able to import their GTA Online characters over to either new-gen version. They'll also unlock exclusive content in the game for upgrading. These extras include classic vehicles, shooting range challenges, and wildlife photography.

The Xbox One and PS4 editions of GTA 5 are due on November 18th. The similarly upgraded PC version will follow in January with exclusive video editing tools.
