Hype GameTap: Free Services, New Content And Tomb Raider Anniversary on N4G
GameTap: Free Services, New Content And Tomb Raider Anniversary If you’re still letting your jaw drop over the combination of “GameTap” and “Free”, you might convulse if you keep on reading. Take a breather and pad your forehead, because there’s a lot more GameTap is offering than what the title indicates. You’ll have to keep on jogging your eyes to get the full low-down on what this is all about.

GameTap is a digital download service for broadband users. And recently the company has announced its expansion into new territories outside of North America, as well as free-services for new and old subscribers alike. “We’ve opened the door even wider—so that practically anyone with a broadband connection can give GameTap a spin,” said Stuart Snyder, Turner’s executive vice president and chief operating officer of Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media. “We want people to sample not just the massive library of GameTap titles, but the adrenalin rush that attracted over 20 million game plays last year.”

The free service will grant users to a rotating library of well over 900 different games, from Eidos’s Tomb Raider, to SNK’s arcade-shooter Metal Slug – and everything else in between – gamers will be able to “drop-in” and play these titles, without the need of a credit card. And if you think that’s crazy, it gets better...not that this is an infomercial or anything. But gamers will also have access to hundreds of streaming hours of GameTap TV, including the likes of videos and interviews of My Chemical Romance, Akon, Evanescence, Fall Out Boy, and many others.

But get this, that’s not all! Believe it or not, there’s more...June 5th (today) marks the day that GameTap opens its first ever online digital store for online purchases of new, retro, nostalgic and fan-favorite games, such asCivilization IV, Psychonauts and the recently released Eidos title, Tomb Raider: Anniversary. In the case of Tomb Raider, you can purchase it for $29.95, and without the hassle of trodding off to the brick and mortar GameStop/EbGames. I bet you didn’t see that one coming? What’s more, though, is that there’s over 450 different games available in GameTap’s new digital store.

You know things roll around here, if you want more information or details regarding the new services and increased consumer content, you can visit GameTap’s Official Website for all the details.
