Gaming Escaping The Wrath Of Racism And PoliticsAuthor: William Usher

Perspective and opinions is what drives a lot of news organizations forward, and at the same time leaves a lot of other outlets in the dust, forgotten and ignored. In this particular case, the issues happen to involve both politics and racism in an unstaunched article about gamers’ perspectives on these very touching issues.
Sinan Kubba writes about effects of perspective and the way they can influence gamers in his Very British Gamer piece on The Game Reviews. He distinctly points how his own nationality and race brought about confusion and deeper query when he played the game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I’m not going to give away why Mr. Kubba felt the way he did when playing COD4, you’ll have to read the article to find out. In equal manner, however, Sinan points out how former Newsweek writer, N’Gai Croal, addressed the issue of politics and racism in Resident Evil 5, and how the effects of N’Gai’s opinionated view of the game’s original trailer played a part in how gamers viewed (or refused to view) RE5. The article touches on some very poignant issues that challenge readers to question if escapism without the consequence of having one’s thoughts provoked on issues explored in games is good for gamers, or if allowing the affectation of the issues to permeate the perspective of a gamer is indeed good for raising a gamer’s consciousness to greater issues at hand.
