Geomerics Showcases Next-Gen Games With Enlighten Trailer

Many of the upcoming Xbox One and PlayStation 4 games will be powered by Geomerics' middleware lighting solution, Enlighten. The lighting engine allows for some of the most diverse options and modifications to achieve some of the best forms of lighting available in the media market space.

The video showcases all the announced and/or available games currently utilizing Geomerics' lighting solution. Some of these games includes high-profile outings such as Battlefield 4 the newly announced Star Wars: Battlefront and the upcoming Mirror's Edge 2. DICE is obviously loving what the Enlighten middleware suite can do when it comes to lighting their games.

It also doesn't hurt that in the case of DICE, Enlighten is being used on top of one of the most praised and advanced video game engines in use right now... Frostbite 3.

Some of the other games on the list seemed to be down-played just a bit, such as Dragon Age: Inquisition, which kind of breezed on by if you weren't readily paying attention. Then again, even at E3 BioWare and EA seemed to slither that one on in there as if they were trying to convince people that the red-headed step kid is still in the family.

Additionally, we also see Command & Conquer very briefly, and it's one of those step-kid cases where it just kind of whizzes on by. Enlighten also powers Need for Speed: Rivals – a game that EA at least seems to be somewhat proud of.

Interestingly enough Enlighten didn't seem to be used in any of the upcoming Ignite Games. Then again, maybe they're just not allowed to showcase it in their promo video yet.

Graphically, though, I think that Geomerics definitely adds a lot to many games that it's used in, especially EA's titles... especially DICE's Frostbite games. However, the problem with EA's games have never been the graphics or the lighting. Usually one of the saving graces of their games have always been the graphics and lighting.

Anyway, Geomerics can't save EA from a bad rep with great lighting, but it can make EA and other titles continue to look good, especially stuff like Primal Carnage: Genesis... that looks amazing.

The Enlighten lighting middleware solution is currently available for current generation game consoles, including the Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as new generation game consoles such as the PlayStation 4, the Wii U, the Xbox One and, of course, the PC.
