Read it and weep Wii and Xbox 360 owners. The Sony-nator has just come through and destroyed all hopes for gamers in a specific region, wanting to play Ghostbusters on anything other than a PlayStation platform.
Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe recently announced that Ghostbusters: The Game will now be a PlayStation exclusive in all PAL territories. This has got to be devastating news for all the man-children out there who wanted to kick their nostalgia into high-gear on their Wii or 360 with Ghostbusters: The Game. “With our colleagues at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe publishing Ghostbusters: The Video Game, we are thrilled by the dynamic new Ghostbusters game. We think it will have tremendous appeal to gamers and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this beloved franchise.” said Mark Caplan, Vice President of Licensing-Interactive for Sony Pictures Consumer Products. “With this superb game launching alongside the Blu-ray release, we will reach existing fans and the next generation, bringing them all into the irresistible Ghostbusters universe.” The only thing I want to know is what roadblock Sony encountered that prevented them from gaining exclusivity rights over here in North America. Was it the Big ‘N’? Possibly M$? Maybe Atari stood their ground because they needed the multiplatform sales being a third-party publisher? Well, it could be anything. But NTSC Wii and 360 gamers should be happy that they’re still getting the game. And just to confirm this, Game Industry had a bit of a clarification on the PAL/NTSC exclusive release news. Ghostbusters: The Game is due out this June, exclusively in PAL territories for the PS2 and PS3 and for all major gaming platforms in NTSC territories.
