Gamers who own the PC version of Gears of War discovered yesterday that they were suddenly unable to play it anymore. What happened? The Windows digital certificate for the game expired. Whoops.

"We have been notified of the issue and are working with Microsoft to get it resolved. Sorry for any problems related to this. I'll post more once we have a resolution," said a developer post on the GoW forums. He added that, "We aren't casting blame or chewing anyone out. We're trying to figure out how and why it happened so we can get it fixed."

In the mean time, there's a workaround you can use to keep playing the game. Just set your computer's date back to before January 28th.
