God Of War III DLC Challenge Rooms Possible, Multiplayer Won't WorkAuthor: Pete Haas

The focus of God of War games has always been the single-player campaign, but what's going to keep players coming back after they finish one play-through? Today God of War III director Stig Asmussen addressed two possible ways to extend the game's experience: downloadable content and multiplayer.
Asmussen told GamePro that they may release standalone challenge rooms as downloadable content after the game hits stores. "So, maybe you'll see the game ship with a certain amount of challenges on it, then later on, we might put a download pack out with new challenges." "For example, now that you have creatures you can ride, maybe we'll put in a challenge where in a certain amount of time you have to get on a Cyclops and kill a certain number of enemies in a certain amount of time. Or, maybe you have to use the Cyclops to get through a certain type of hazard or area or something like that." Asmussen shot down the idea of multiplayer, though, because it "doesn't fit" into the story experience they want to give players. "Imagine two Kratos characters running around at the same time. Once you do that, the story becomes something more about an experience between two players and less about something that we're scripting." Well, I suppose they could add a new partner character in GoW III for co-op purposes but it would've required some very drastic revision of the plot. Wonder if anyone's Photoshopped Kratos' head onto a Lethal Weapon poster yet. His brash, violent demeanor would mesh well with Detective Murtaugh's by-the-book, world-weary attitude. |
