Starting today, Mac gamers can dive into ArenaNet's new MMORPG Guild Wars 2. The beta client for the Mac version is now available for download and allows you to play on the live servers.

Anyone who purchased the PC version of GW2 will be able to download the Mac client through the Account Management page. Mac and PC gamers will play on the same game servers. If you've got a Mac and PC, then, you can freely switch between them for GW2.

ArenaNet will eventually release boxed copies with the Mac version. The exact release date hasn't been pinned down yet, though. It depends on feedback from the beta testers. Testers are encouraged to use this forum to voice their opinions.

If you want to run the Mac version, make sure that your system meets these requirements:
  • Mac OS®X 10.7.X or later
  • Intel® Core™ i5 or better
  • 4 GB Ram or better
  • NVIDIA® GeForce® 320M, ATI Radeon™ HD 6630M, Intel HD 3000 or better
  • 25 GB available HDD space
  • Broadband Internet cConnection
  • Keyboard and mMouse/eEquivalent
Guild Wars 2 launched on the PC on August 28th. It's impressive that ArenaNet was able to get the Mac version up and running so soon afterward. Mac ports are a low priority for many developers. Star Wars: The Old Republic, last year's big MMO, still isn't on that platform despite hints by BioWare).
