Activision recently announced that Guitar Hero Smash Hits and Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits is now available for major gaming platforms and handheld devices.

According to the press release, “Guitar Hero Smash Hits expands the experience of previous guitar-only games to the full band so gamers can join together and rock to 48 of the most fun and celebrated tracks from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.”

The game will feature master recordings from top-name artists and old-school legends such as Alice In Chains, Queen, Poison, Rage Against The Machine, Twisted Sister, Heart and DragonForce. In other words, it contains a lot of artists from an era where dressing up like over-done women was the cool thing to do as a guy. Isn’t it a relief that trend of cultural expression is over with? ...or is it?

Anyway, in addition to announcing the availability of Guitar Hero Smash Hits, Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern was also marked for availability on the Nintendo DS. This Guitar Hero game expands on the series with 28 rocking songs from artists such as, Coldplay, Fall Out Boy, Tenacious D, The Strokes and Weezer.
