The whole ten-year plan has been used quite a bit recently. Sony never stops talking about the decade-long life cycle for the PlayStation consoles, and just recently the Gears of War writers expressed the need to fill out ten years of games within the Gears franchise. Well, guess who else is talking about ten years of gaming quality?
Ensemble Studios explain how they set out from the start to make a memorable RTS game for Xbox 360 gamers. They're hoping that ten years from now gamers will remember Halo Wars as an RTS the way gamers remember Doom as an FPS. In so many words, they were saying that Halo Wars isn’t a hack-job port or some half-conceived LP game that EA or Activision are known for throwing out there. It’s explained quite clearly how the team has put a lot of effort into setting up the appropriate story as a prequel leading into the original Halo trilogy.
This vid doc is pretty cool and you might as well check it out given that the reviews are embargoed up until the game’s official release. Yep folks, we have to wait to tell you about the game even though it's already in the laps of our staff. It’s pretty cool, though, but I’m sure anyone who has played the demo, which is currently available on Xbox Live, already knows this.
