Hohokum Hits PlayStation Consoles This Summer, VizionEck Announced For PS4

Along with all of the traditional AAA games and indie darlings, it look like the Sony family of consoles will continue to be the place to be for games that operate ever-so-slightly outside of the box. New details have recently surfaced concerning two such titles, including Hohokum for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, and VizionEck for the PS4.

I first got my hands on Hohokum at E3 2013. It was a bizarre little demo, featuring a large open world full of floating islands and all manner of creatures. My job, as far as I could tell, was to fly this long snakelike creature around in order to interact with various bits of the environment. It was intriguing, and felt more like a sandbox full of toys than a traditional game.

According to the latest details from Sony, everyone else will have the opportunity to experience this bizarre wonderland of color and kookiness on the PS3, PS4 and Vita later this summer.

“Recently we were filmed for the first of a series of developer diaries that touch on key components that make up the world of Hohokum,” explained co-creator Richard Hogg. “Our first video is about the Art of Hohokum, featuring myself and Ricky Haggett. We get a lot of questions about how the art style came about, what our process is like, and how our collaboration works. There is some sketchbook stuff that you might find interesting and one of our animators Angus Dick makes a guest appearance to talk about that side of things. It ends with me talking about vegetables for some reason.”

Also coming to the PlayStation 4 is VizionEck, a first-person shooter that looks like anything but an FPS. It’s hard to glean much from the monochromatic trailer posted today on the PlayStation Blog but, according to founder and lead developer Michael Armbrust, the minute-long clip offers up several hidden details concerning the game.

“The announcement trailer has a lot of secrets and game features hidden in it,” he said. “If you didn’t put the clues together, I’ll help you out with some of the basics. VizionEck is technically an FPS. It has very little in common with the traditional FPS though. In the game you play as a Ranger—essentially just a cube.”

Mull it over for yourself and look for this one to arrive on Sony’s new home console at some point in the coming months.
