How Are Fallout 3 And Skate It Connected?

published: 2009-03-09 15:59:41
If, as a gamer, you were asked what the similarities were between Skate It and Fallout 3, what would be your response? Now don’t go wrecking your brain over this question because you probably won’t ever guess. But I’ll give something away: it has to do with the flaws of both games that aren't really flawed.

Lawrence Sonntag of TheGameReviews.com tackles the subject of technical game flaws and the developmental airbrushing they receive from developers that makes crap look like gold. Well, sometimes the crap still looks like crap, they just make it seem like it’s crap that’s supposed to be there.

The article ties-in some of the woes that developers face, amidst the stringent time constraints and over-bearing worries of sales quotas that publishers are pressured to meet. Sometimes what looks like a really bad thing is sometimes not so bad. For instance, relegating Skate to the Wii with worse graphics and alternate play mechanics was used in the article as an example of making good out of something bad. While the graphics weren’t on par to its technical superiors on the 360 and PS3, Skate It for the Wii featured alternate, story-oriented environments and optimized play mechanics for the Wii balance-board and Wii-mote.

Fallout 3 was also used in the article, simply being that it was one of the highest rated games of last year (and containing none of the review controversy of KillZone 2 or GTA IV). Sonntag explains how the vastness of the game is kept to a minimal while still being presented with a large atmospheric scope due to some snazzy environmental designs.

It’s an interesting read for anyone who may want to think about gaming on a slightly deeper level. Check it out on TheGameReviews.com. For further insight, news, and updates on the latest gaming titles, be sure to stay tuned in with Blend Games.
