Hudson Announces Deca Sports For SummerAuthor: Jonathan Stulce

Here's what we're going to do. We'll take the simple gameplay of Wii Sports, cram twice as many sports onto the disc, use the same character models we have in the past, and release a brand new compilation of mini-games. It's genius! We'll create a virtual decathlon, but remove the events and challenges that might require more development hours. Here we go, we'll call it Deca Sports, deca being the Greek word for ten.
As much as I want to deny it, it seems the world of casual games is continuing to explode. This continual flood of cheaply developed software saddens me. It saddens me, because people are getting ripped off. The industry has grown so large; the President of Electronic Arts Casual doesn't care what reviewers think of her games, since her customers don't read about games before buying them. Eventually these new consumers are going to become tired of paying 50-60 dollars for games they can't play. Maybe Deca Sports won't be this way. After all, the game is being developed by Hudson Entertainment, who brought us the entertaining, although shallow, Fishing Master. It's hard to throw insults at the company that introduced, and continues to produce, Bomberman titles. Maybe I'm just a disgruntled, tired, and generally angry video game commentator that loves to look at the bad side of things. Whatever the case, Deca Sports will get released, Deca Sports will sell, and Deca Sportsmay wind up being more addictive than Wii Sports. So now that I've got my complaining about the industry out of the way, let me tell you about Deca Sports. So here's the deal. This summer we should be able to join in on ten sporting events: Beach Volleyball, Snowboard Cross, Badminton, Basketball, Curling, Figure Skating, Archery, Supercross, Soccer and Kart Racing. The game is aimed at fans of any age, but Hudson Entertainment assures us that hardcore sports enthusiast should love playing Deca Sports. Each sport utilizes the Wiimote in a unique way. Some of the examples are swinging the controller while playing Volleyball in order to bop or spike the ball. Control your snowboarder by twisting your wrists, time your jumps and spins in figure skating, and align your shots in Soccer. Each sporting event within the compilation offers single player, as well as multiplayer modes. If you have friends, you can bring them over and challenge each person to a vivid game of Badminton. Heck, just open your door and invite anyone who walks down the hallway. I'm sure colleges across the country will be using Deca Sports to form their own Decathlon of Drink. Honestly, the game sounds like a lot of fun. We'll find out this summer. |
