Call of Duty 4 has been battling Halo 3 (and GTA 4 to some extent) for the top spot on the Xbox Live multiplayer traffic and Infinity Ward's trying their damnedest to keep us playing. After successful testing earlier in July, four new multiplayer modes have been approved and will be added to the game sometime soon.
All four modes are pretty straightforward. Bare-bones Team Deathmatch is like normal Team Deathmatch games except there's no kill streak rewards and you can't use perks. In Multi-bomb Search and Destroy, instead of the attacking team only having one bomb to plant, every player gets one. The last two modes are simply Hardcore (no HUD's, increased damage) versions of Headquarters and Free-for-All.
No date on when these new modes would go live. According to Infinity Ward community manager fourzerotwo, the playlists will now be tested internally to iron out the few remaining bugs and then localized to the various languages COD4 is available in. After that, they'll "flip the switch to make it available to everyone over Xbox LIVE / PSN. No download or anything is required. The playlist will update seamlessly the next time players get on once it’s uploaded."
Maybe it was just a slip, but why wasn't the PC version mentioned in the above sentence? Will these modes be made available for the PC and if so, will it be at the same as the PS3/360? I can't imagine they wouldn't be made immediately available if it's not paid content like map packs. We'll just have to wait and see.
