Internet Pretends To Care About Ghostbusters: The Game's Graphics

Pissing contests over the relative graphical quality of the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of video games are nothing new. This time, though, the tired old slapfight is being waged over a game you probably consider fodder for hardcore fanboy nonsense: Ghostbusters: The Game.

It seems the Xbox 360 version's graphics look slightly sharper than the PS3 version. The Internet proceeded to freak out, because, well, that's just what the Internet does. "It'll be so distracting when I'm playing both versions of a game simultaneously on televisions right next to each other!" they cried.

If you care why there's a discrepancy, here's what developer Terminal Reality told Joystiq: "For the record, the PS3 version [of Ghostbusters] is softer due to the 'quincunx' antialiasing filter and the fact we render at about 75% the resolution of the 360 version. So you cannot directly compare a screen shot of one to the other unless you scale them properly. The PS3 does have less available RAM than the 360 – but we managed to squeeze 3 out of 4 textures as full size on the PS3."

OMG, Terminal Reality admitted that the Xbox 360 is somehow better able to render virtual Dan Aykroyd's head than the PS3. Hurray, console war's over. Someone find me a nurse to kiss.

It's not that I think Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a bad game or that it's unworthy of our attention - I haven't actually played it yet, to be honest. I just don't want people to wear themselves out arguing this issue when the real battles are yet to come. For example, on June 30th the video game adaptations Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs will both arrive.
