No doubt every workday at Japan's trademark office is an interesting one, but today was above average. Nintendo applied for a trademark on the term "Zii."

The application, spotted by Siliconera, specifies video games and/or electronic devices. There's been a steady stream of Wii HD and Wii 2 rumors this year. Could this be it? C'mon, "Zii" rhymes with "Wii"!

If polled, I imagine most people would say that "Zii" is a stupid name. Bear in mind that "Wii" is a pretty ridiculous name too and Nintendo has still managed to ship over 50 million of the suckers.
