Kid Shot Because Of God Of War?

In a recent article on Kotaku, it appears that a 15 year old boy from Texas may have been shot in the head by a 13 year old, which is really not much of a story now, is it? I mean, really, people get shot all the time. But here’s the real kicker—the 15 year old boy who was shot was playing the ultra-violent actioner, God of War when it happened, which I’m sure is leading some to believe that there’s a link between the two.

The 15 year old boy in question didn’t die, and also didn’t suffer any fatal wounds to the head, so I guess the 13 year old couldn’t have been that great a shot (Maybe he should have practiced more Virtua Cop), but that’s besides the point. The point is, yet again, a video game is being blamed for suburban teen violence since there is no other possible explanation for why one kid would shoot another in the head. I won’t even bring up the fact that eliminating the 2nd Amendment altogether might probably end incidents like this in a heartbeat (Oh, wait, I just did), so let’s just leave that argument on the shelf right now, shall we?

But honestly, really? Can anybody really blame God of War, a game that doesn’t even have a gun in it at all, for this accident? If the boy had walked back into the room with two kitchen knives attached to wires around his wrists and shouted, “ARRRREEEESSSS!” when he attacked the boy, then that would be a different story. But this is ridiculous! Come on mainstream media, get it together and start blaming the people who really matter in situations like this—the parents.
