Kinect Star Wars Release Date Set, Phantom Menace 3D Offers Sneak Preview
Today Microsoft and LucasArts revealed the release date for Kinect Star Wars. The game will arrive alongside a limited edition console bundle on April 3rd. You'll be able to try out the game yourself this weekend, though.
Kinect Star Wars features five game modes supporting Kinect motion sensing technology. In Rancor Rampage mode, players take on the role of a massive beast and rampage through Mos Eisley. Duels of Fate allows you to test your lightsaber skills against various Dark Side practitioners. Podracing features high-speed races through the treacherous canyons of Tatooine. Jedi Destiny: Dark Side Rising mode offers players a traditional Star Wars story filled with speeder races, duels and space battles.
The fifth mode is Galactic Dance Off. You can battle Darth Vader in an epic duel of dark side and light side dance moves. The game's said to ship with several "Star Wars-themed pop tunes."
The Xbox 360 Kinect bundle (priced at $449.99) comes with a wireless controller and 320GB console painted to resemble C-3PO and R2-D2, respectively. A headset and copies of Kinect Star Wars and Kinect Adventures are included as well. Today's press release mentions that the bundle will come with a voucher to unlock C-3PO for Dance Mode.
If you're planning to see Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D in theaters, you might have a shot at some hands-on time with Kinect Star Wars. On February 11th, select AMC theaters in the United States will host Star Wars festivities that include Kinect demos. To find out whether your local theater is participating, check out StarWars.com.
