GAMING BLEND
Koei Says No To XenophobiaAuthor: Tim Beringer

If you’ve ever been kept up at nights worrying about if Koei loves non-Japanese gamers citing the fact that American audiences had to wait four years for Nobunaga’s Ambition for the PS2 or that none of the Dynasty Warriors games come out soon enough, say good bye to those sleepless nights. The Japanese based developer has restructured their marketing divisions. The changes will see not only an Asian division of Koei, but now a Western division as well.
Still located in Yokohama, Japan, the company is divvying up their executives to make a branch of the company that will focus purely on the European and North American markets. Naoki Katashima has been named executive vice-president of the company’s Western branch that will cover France, the UK and North America handling marketing and sales. Katashima will be leaving the comfort of his offices in Yokohama for the UK. Specifically, the Western division will be located in Hertsfordshire. "The plan demonstrates our renewed commitment to our western businesses and the importance with which Koei views the markets outside of Japan.” says Katashima. This move to expand shows the developer’s serious intentions to grow even further past their status of being successful in the West to being wildly successful. Katashima did not comment on what exactly it will mean for Koei games in the West. It would be nice if this move will mean an earlier release of games such as the Dynasty Warriors series. Koei has a history of taking their sweet time getting games to the non-Asian market and then releasing something with utterly ridiculous voice-acting and translations. Worst case scenario though, all it means is that we’ll see more commercials with angry looking soldiers waving swords and spears with some questionable physics. |
