One of the most talked about but highly under-appreciated games for the Nintendo Wii has been Hironobu Sakaguchi's The Last Story. This epic RPG for the Wii was designed and developed by both Mistwalker Studios and Nintendo, and features the inescapable music of legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu. XSeed games has the privilege and honor to distribute the game throughout North America and they have set the official release date for August 14th, next month.
A basic rundown of the story premise is as follows...
The Last Story follows Zael and his band of fellow adventurers as they travel to Lazulis Island, the only region prospering as the mainland of the Empire slowly rots away, in search of work, opportunity and a better future. After securing employment with the ruler of the island, Count Arganan, Zael dreams of finally achieving a secure life as a knight and putting his unstable mercenary past behind him, but things don’t exactly go to plan when events during their first mission change his life forever…
That's just the start of it. The Last Story has been labeled as the second greatest RPG for the Nintendo Wii alongside Xenoblade. Both games are touted as the power-couple of amazing RPGs released during this generation of home console gaming.
The real hook of The Last Story resides in its combat system, which utilizes a mix of both ranged and melee combat, as well as stealth-oriented takedowns. Unlike other RPGs where the bad guys always know where you are, you can actually initiate combat by first taking out foes completely unseen, old-school Sam Fisher style.
In addition to the evolutionary new JRPG combat mechanic, players will also experience a vast world of intriguing and unique characters, rich graphics and of course a completely original soundtrack from Nobuo Uematsu.
A special pre-order bonus is currently available that enables gamers to grab up some extra goodies, including a seven-track CD featuring exclusive music from The Last Story, as well as a 44-page soft-cover artbook for gaming enthusiasts who love to collect memorabilia.
You can look to pick up a retail copy of The Last Story on August 14th for the suggested retail price of $44.99. For further information on the game be sure to pay a visit to the Official Website.
