Legend Of Chun-Li Falls Out Of Top Ten Already

In its opening weekend, video game flick Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li debuted at #8 at the box office. A week later, it's at #14 and has brought in 70% less money.

Legend of Chun-Li took in $1.365 million from March 6th to 8th, a sharp decrease from the $4.65 million it grossed February 27th to March 1st despite being in 28 more theaters this weekend. Poor reviews and word-of-mouth probably contributed to the decline. The Friday debut of Watchmen, another film appealing to young males, more than likely played a role as well.

As Capcom pointed out last week, though, the 1994 Street Fighter movie didn't do well at the box office either and was similarly savaged by critics but still generates steady money for the company due to cable showings, DVD/Blu-ray sales, and foreign distribution. In other words, it doesn't look like anyone's going to be punished for making such a horrible, horrible movie.
