It's not often that a handheld version of a multiplatform game comes out first, but that's exactly what's going down with Lego The Lord of the Rings. If you're gaming on the Nintendo DS, the 3DS or the PlayStation Vita, then you can pick up the latest title in the Lego lineup right this very minute. For those looking to take down Sauron on the PC, Xbox 360, Wii or PlayStation 3, then you're going to have to wait until Nov. 13.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games today announced the availability of Lego The Lord of the Rings on portable consoles everywhere. Based on the movie trilogy, which I understand was based on a pretty popular series of books, the game brings J.R.R. Tolkien's world of Middle-earth to life with the traditional tongue-in-cheek style of the Lego series of games.
“With Lego The Lord of the Rings, we are taking players on a truly remarkable adventure that is more epic than any they've experienced before in a Lego game,” said TT Games Managing Director Tom Stone, presumably raising his voice to an absolutely dramatic tone building to the end of that sentence. “The game has a wonderful cast of characters, dramatic battles and amazing locations, all of which bring The Lord of the Rings story to life in a uniquely Lego way that the entire family will enjoy together.”
Players will be able to play as their favorite LOTR characters, from Frodo to Gimli, as they reenact the storyline from the films with a heaping helping of goofy humor thwon in for good measure. You'll get to visit the Shire, Helms Deep, and even Mount Doom. Along the way, you'll fight goblins and orcs aplenty, as well as the giant spider Shelob, the haunting Nazgul and Sauron himself.
Pick up Lego The Lord of the Rings for your favorite handheld starting today for $39.99. Otherwise, put on your waiting pants and get to holding your breath for the Nov. 13 console release.
