It is oddly exciting to think we’ll be playing a game that pits Mario Vs. Sonic in just a few short months. Of course, it’s not the game we were all hoping for. To that, I’m still holding out hope for Sonic’s appearance in Super Smash Bros.. While we wait for that news to break, there are some new screenshots of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games for us to enjoy.

I know there are plenty of you reading this now that right this game off as another piece of crap for the Wii, but you might be a bit hasty in your prejudgment. It’s not what Mario, or Sonic, fans were envisioning when Miyamoto talked of Sonic’s possible joining of forces with Mario around this time last year. But damn it, this thing looks fun. The main concern is that the Sonic Team at Sega is working on the game, and lately they’ve been all miss with titles. Hopefully, Nintendo is heavily influencing development to protect their titular plumber. In any case, you can check out the latest screenshots for the game below.
