Leipzig GC 08: Sims 3 in February I've never played a single Sims game but apparently everyone else on this planet has so I guess this is worth mentioning: Electronic Arts announced on Wednesday that The Sims 3 will be available in stores and for digital purchase for PC on February 20th.

For those of you who got into their bomb shelters quickly enough to avoid the barrage of Sims games and expansion packs over the past decade, here's a quick recap: The Sims franchise puts you in control of virtual people ("Sims") as they go through their day-to-day activities. It seems like the basic appeal of the game is your ability to fuck with these hapless virtual people. A fellow gamer once told me that they liked to lock their Sims in a room with a fireworkers shooter and watch them blow themselves up.

Sims 3 differs from previous installments in that your characters will be able to wander outside their homes and explore the entirety of their neighborhood with no loading screens. The customization of individual Sims has also been greatly enhanced; you can construct unique personalities for them based on a new traits system and hand-pick every minute detail of their appearance as well. I've posted the trailer shown at last month's E3 below because it can do a better job at explaining the game than someone who's never played a single entry in the series.

EA will also be offering a Collector's Edition for the game, which comes with a Sims 3 branded USB drive, hint guide, stickers, and stickers. The Collector's Edition will also net you an exclusive in-game item: an Italian sports car. Even though I don't play the Sims games (unless someone sends me a free advance copy, which would be dynamite), I'm glad that they sell extraordinarily well and help keep the PC gaming raft afloat. I like to think the obscene profits of this series and World of Warcraft send a message to other PC-shy developers that there's still a lot of people out there who prefer to play games on the same device they use to stockpile pornography.
