Lich King Back On Top

Dawn of War II and Empire: Total War both had their moments in the sun but now World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King has returned to the top of the US PC retail sales chart. Here are the top ten in sales for March 22nd to March 28th, according to the NPD Group.

  1. World Of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Blizzard)
  2. Empire: Total War (Creative Assembly)
  3. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe (EA Maxis)
  4. World Of Warcraft Battle Chest (Blizzard)
  5. Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II (Relic)
  6. Spore (EA Maxis)
  7. Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst (Big Fish Games)
  8. World Of Warcraft (Blizzard)
  9. The Sims 2 Apartment Life Exp. Pack (EA Maxis)
  10. Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway (Gearbox)

Empire and Dawn of War II occupied the top slot for three and two weeks, respectively. Bear in mind that both games were just released in the last month or so whereas Lich King's been out since November. I suppose the consistent sales are a result of previous WoW subscribers finally picking up the expansion. Back in December, 4 million of the 11.5 million total subscribers had bought Lich King so there's plenty of room for growth, there.
