Sony’s PlayStation Day 2008 came with the breaking news that LittleBigPlanet will be in homes by October. Sony president and CEO, Kaz Hirai spoke at the London event with the big announcement.
This will be the umpteenth time that Sony has pushed back the release of their artsy, cutsy, and sure-to-be-cultsy world puzzle game. Their latest projection date of September is now pushed back another month. LittleBigPlanet, if you haven’t heard is a puzzle world-creation game that is generating plenty of eagerness. You control small characters that can jump, move, and grab objects in order to develop highly manipulative environment. These “patches” (levels and other modifications) will work with a robust physics engine complimented with many variable objects such as felt, wood, metal, or sponge. The PlayStation Network is hoping to launch LBP to polygamist notoriety by allowing players to interact, share, and play co-op on levels that will no doubt have no equal. Maybe, just maybe, Sony is simply trying to build anticipation for their new platformer but if you ask me, the only thing they’re building is frustration. Frustration brewing from the new symptom called No-MGS4itis, especially since Sony still doesn’t have a convinced fan base. Unless you count the loyal PlayStation zombie gamers, Sony will need to win the middle ground with exclusive hit titles as they try to sway thumbs from the 360. LBP would’ve been that game. Sony currently has a beta scheduled to release sometime this summer. The full version of LittleBigPlanet is planned for October. At least until Sony pushes the release back again. |
