Survival horror fans with a taste for retro goodness will be happy to know that PC indie darling, Lone Survivor, is making its way to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita soon. How soon? Well, in just a couple of days, as it turns out.

We announced a little while back that Lone Survivor would eventually be making its way to PlayStation consoles, bringing its unique blend of atmospheric terror and old school graphics to PlayStation's home and portable consoles. Now Curve Studios PR and Marketing Manager Rob Clarke has made the game's latest release date official, stating that Jarper Byrne's Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut will be landing on both platforms this upcoming Tuesday, Sept. 24.

Byrne's original version of Lone Survivor launched on the PC a year ago. Over the past eight months, however, the game's director has been working with London-based Curve to port an enhanced version of the game to both the PlayStation 3 and Vita.

“Jasper describes the game as a 'psychological survival adventure'” explains Clarke. “It has all the hallmarks of classic survival horror games—high on atmosphere and low on available sources and ammunition.”

He goes on to state that players can choose to be more stealthy with their exploration of the world or, you know, go all Rambo and whatnot. But your choices will have consequences, as different scenarios and endings will become available as a result of your actions.

If you've ever wanted to play a 2D, retro-infused version of a game like Silent Hill, or perhaps one of the earlier and not terrible iterations of Resident Evil, then Lone Survivor might be just what you're looking for. I'm currently crawling through Fatal Frame for the PS2 to help get me in the Halloween spirit, and it looks like Lone Survivor will be here just in time to serve as a perfect follow-up to help carry me in to All Hallow's Eve.

And for those of you who have already played the game on the PC, it looks like this Director's Cut of the game will have a little something extra to offer, possibly making it worth another gander.

“For the PlayStation version, we started with simple upgrades, like adding touch support on Vita and improving the lighting system,” Clarke explained. “And things spiralled from there. We've added over 20 new items, new endings, and new game locations.”

Not to worry, Lone Survivor faithfuls, as Byrne apparently designed all of the newest additions himself, allowing the team at Curve to beef up the product without stepping on any toes.

While an official price has not yet been announced, games like this typically fall within the $10-$15 range. To sweeten the pot, the game will be a Cross Buy, Cross Save title. You can purchase it on either the PS3 or Vita and download it on the other platform at no additional cost. From there, you can zap your save file back and forth between the two consoles, picking up where you left off whether you're sitting on the couch at home or riding on the bus to work. Look for Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut to hit PlayStation Network this Tuesday.
