Turbine will be re-releasing their MMO Lord of the Rings Online to stores. They're preparing a Mithril Edition of the game with bonus content.

LOTRO went free-to-play in September 2010. The game is supported by microtransactions as well as optional subscriptions. What you're paying for in the Mithril Edition, then, isn't the game but rather the extras.

In addition to the game discs, the Mithril Edition comes with a starter guide, keyboard map, 2,000 Turbine Points for the in-game store, a Steed of the Horse-lords mount, and a bundle of quests for Trollshaws, Eregion, the Mines of Moria and Lothlorien. Turbine says that the bundle is a $50 value. It'll cost you $29.99 to purchase.

LOTRO allows players to create human, hobbit, elf, or dwarven characters and adventure throughout Middle-earth. They'll visit locations from the books and assist notable characters like Legolas, Aragorn, and Gandalf. There have been three full-fledged expansions released for the game thus far. The latest, Rise of Isengard, went live at the end of September.

No release date has been set for the Mithril Edition yet. Presumably Turbine would like to get it out during this holiday season, though.
