MadWorld Sells Only 66,000

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars's attempt at bringing mature gaming to the DS last month didn't go so well. MadWorld's attempt to do the same for the Wii apparently didn't pan out, either.

According to the NPD Group, MadWorld only sold 66,000 units in the US in March. The game hit stores on March 10th and while it didn't get the phenomonal reviews that Chinatown Wars received, it still netted a solid 82 on Metacritic. You can read Blend Games' review here.

Gamasutra notes that out of the 1,000 Wii games listed on the ESRB website, only 26 are rated "M" (Mature). Sega no doubt considered the void of Mature games on the Wii to be a good opportunity for their game to shine. While MadWorld no doubt proved that it's possible to release a good game for adults on the Wii, it falls to another game to prove that there's a substantial market for these types of games.
