Today EA revealed that a new game mode will be added to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Madden NFL 10. The new mode challenges players "to create the definitive NFL team."

Madden Ultimate Team mode adds a collectible card game element to Madden 10. You assemble a virtual deck of cards that feature NFL players, coaches, and so forth. The different cards you own determines the roster of your team, who you can pit against human or A.I. opponents. You earn coins through playing Madden games and can then purchase new cards through an in-game store or auction house.

Ultimate Team mode will be released in January. Surprisingly enough, it'll be free to download.
