Earlier we mentioned that EA has three Need for Speed games in development. It seems that's not true - there's actually four in the works. The fourth, though, is super secret.

"Black Box is currently working on a future action title in the franchise," said EA's marketing vice prez Keith Munro to Eurogamer. Kind of odd that Munro didn't mention this in the Gamestop interview where he previously revealed the three other NFS games. Making separate announcements does prolong the media exposure, though.

"Action title" does leave a lot of room for speculation. With the upcoming Need for Speed: Shift focusing on racing simulation, it's possible this secret title will center around high-speed police pursuits, highway racing and the other action movie trappings seen in games like Need for Speed: Undercover. EA's approach toward the NFS series, now is to basically split the franchise into different "flavors" of racing rather than trying to please every type of racing fan in one game.

"This is about crafting different games for different audiences and their unique tastes in the driving category," said Munro.
