MapleStory Gets Luminous As A Playable Character
The legendary hero, Luminous, is well known to the hordes of players who dive into 2D sidescrolling MMORPG, MapleStory, on a regular basis. Formerly just a part of the unfolding story, Luminous is now available as a playable character, giving everyone a chance to experience his unique play style that straddles the line between light and darkness.
For those unfamiliar with the game, MapleStory is like the vast majority of free-to-play MMORPGs on the market, only its world is presented as an interconnected areas of 2D platforming maps. Players interact with one another, fight monsters and explore as if they were playing a classic adventure game like Super Mario Bros, but the gameplay is far more involved and includes all of the MMO trappings like crafting, speaking with NPCs, casting spells, using abilities, etc.
One leg of the MapleStory mythos deals with Luminous, a light-filled magician who was one day tainted by the darkness of the nefarious Black Mage. Now Luminous travels the world of MapleStory torn between both sides on his quest for vengeance and redemption. As it so happens, that means you get to control Luminous and his interesting set of skills.
“He’s probably one of the most interesting characters to ever emerge within the Maple world, utilizing both Powerful Buffs and Devastating Dark Magic,” reads a statement from Nexon. “Players actually have to balance this character just like Ying and Yang. If the player only uses one side of his skills, the power of that used force will decrease, which requires the player to put effort into controlling this new hero, allowing a totally new approach on the pervious character development in MapleStory.”
Luminous joins the list of other recent additions to the world of MapleStory, including some other new characters, all new bosses to battle, a smoother leveling system, map overhauls and a new PvP combat system. To jump into the game for free, visit the MapleStory official website.
