Sega announced today that Mario and Sonic's next foray into amateur athletics will arrive in October. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games will hit stores on October 13th here in North America. Europe will get it on October 16th.
Much like Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Winter Games is a Wii/DS game that has Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario, and all their friends competing in various Olympic events. Among the events included in Winter are snowboard cross, alpine skiing, figure skating, bobsleigh and ice hockey. Both versions will feature single and competitive multiplayer modes. The Wii iteration will also include co-op play and Balance Board support.
This particular game looks to cash in on the 2010 Winter Olympics, which will take place in Vancouver next February. Milking Mario, Sonic, and the Olympics simultaneously has worked well for Sega in the past. The first Mario & Sonic sold over ten million so expect to see one of these games every two years.
