The NPD Group has released the sales data for May and while it was a weak month in both hardware and software, someone's gotta win the gold medal. UFC 2009 Undisputed and the Nintendo DS are kings of very small hills.
Software
UFC 2009 Undisputed (THQ, Xbox 360, 679.6K)
Wii Fit (Nintendo, Wii, 352.8K)
EA Sports Active (EA, Wii, 345.8K)
UFC 2009 Undisputed (THQ, PS3, 334.4K)
inFamous (Sony, PS3, 175.9K)
Pokemon Platinum (Nintendo, DS, 168.9K)
Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo, Wii, 158.3K)
Punch Out!! (Nintendo, Wii, 156.9K)
X-Men Origins Wolverine Uncaged Edition (Acti Blizz, Xbox 360, 120.7K)
Wii Play (Nintendo, Wii, 109.8K)
Hardware
Nintendo DS - 633.5K
Wii - 289.5K
Xbox 360 - 175K
PlayStation 3 - 131K
PS2 - 117K
PSP - 100.4K
Software revenue was down 17% and hardware was down 30%. This is the first time that monthly sales for the gaming industry have fell below $1 billion since August 2007, according to the NPD. Still, THQ's no doubt very pleased with how UFC 2009 performed, racking up over a million in sales in half a month. No wonder EA's preparing their own mixed martial arts game.
